This exhibition draws together a rich response to the natural world choosing the bird as the primary subject. Sharing a common inspiration in their love of birds, the ceramic artists in this exhibition use various forming and surface techniques to convey their interpretations of fragility, strength, and the complex, delicate balance of nature. Juror’s Bio: Hannah Niswonger
Hanna received an MFA in ceramic sculpture from Alfred University in Alfred, New York. As an undergraduate she attended Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut where she received a BA in studio art. Hannah has taught courses in ceramics at a number of schools, including Harvard University and Mass Art in Boston, Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia. Hanna is repesented by Pinch Gallery, Northampton, MA, Decordova Museum & Sculpture Park, Lincoln, MA, Iota Gallery, Dallas, TX, and Fuller Craft Museum, Brockton, MA.
Juror’s Bio: Bernadette Curran
Bernadette Curran, a studio artist and educator in Ardmore, PA, received her BFA from Pennsylvania State University and completed an MFA in Ceramics at The Ohio State University. She has received artist-in-residence fellowships from Baltimore Clayworks, Chester Springs Studio, and the Moravian Pottery and Tile Works. Her work has been exhibited in many juried and invitational shows throughout the country. Bernadette is currently teaching drawing and ceramic classes in the Philadelphia area and enjoys traveling to present visiting artists workshops. Bernadette is represented by Ferrin Gallery, Pittsfield, MA, and The Clay Studio, Philadelphia, PA.
