Reigning Cats and Dogs
Celebrating the Joy of Animal Companionship
April 6 – May 4, 2013
The Wayne Art Center is pleased to announce that Reigning Cats and Dogs, an exhibition celebrating the joy of animal companionship, will open to the public on April 6th with a private reception from 6-9 pm. The exhibit features a body of juried entries from artists working in painting, drawing, pastel, mixed media, ceramics, printmaking, sculpture and fiber representing companion animals. The focus of the exhibit will be the successful portrayal of qualities that make companion animals perfect to live with as part of the family. Over $2,000 in awards will be presented by jurors, Garth Herrick and Jennifer Frudakis. Reigning Cats and Dogs will continue through May 4, 2013.
The opening reception for Reigning Cats and Dogs is sponsored by White Dog Café in Wayne. Special hors d’oeuvres and a White Dog signature drink will be served to our guests at the opening reception. Tickets are available at $35/person.
The Wayne Art Center will host the Reigning Cats and Dogs Pet Fair on Saturday, April 7 from 10 am to 3 pm. Braxton’s Animal Works and other local pet providers and vendors will be available to promote their businesses. Photographer, Brenda Carpenter will set up “The Mutt Room” where pet owners can bring their animals for a 15 minute sitting for $45 each. Advanced registration is required. Other activities include a visit with adoptable pets from Main Line Animal Rescue, Bird Town of Audubon will have live birds, Wagsworth Manor Pet Resort, craft vendors, pet caricatures by Toni Squadroni, Gallery Shop and more! Wayne Art Center will also offer Animal Adoption Day and Workshops from 12:00 – 3:00 pm on Saturday, April 7. Sessions include Animal Mask, Pet Collar Jewels, Dog & Cat Cookie Decorating, Decorative Pet Treat Jar, and Pet Photo Frame. Each session costs $5.00 or a $20.00 for a Pack of Five. Nearly 90 works of art representing 65 artists through the US and Canada have been chosen out of 120 submissions. The 2 and 3 dimensional works represent a wide range of expression from highly technical realism to sheer whimsical gesture. Most works will be for sale as well as specific commissions of personal pets. A portion of proceeds from sales and commissions will be dedicated to Main Line Animal Rescue.

About the Jurors:
Garth Herrick:
A native Pennsylvanian, Garth received the Cresson Memorial Traveling Scholarship in 1984 and numerous additional awards. Always a figurative painter, Garth naturally gravitation towards portraiture and has been actively painting commissions for the past twenty years. Garth’s work is included in over thirty corporate, private and public collections.
Jennifer Frudakis:
Certificate in Sculpture, PAFA
Studied at the Frudakis Academy with Evangelos Frudakis for 4 years in an intensive sculpture program. Jennifer’s work is included in many corporate, public and private collections.
