Outreach

At the core of Wayne Art Center’s mission is its commitment to bringing the arts to all members of our diverse community—no matter their abilities, age, or financial status. Through partnerships throughout the community, our outreach programs provide arts enrichment to disadvantaged, underserved, and disabled populations.

Our current outreach programs include:

Broaden Your World

Provides free art classes for people with traumatic brain injury. Classes encourage the development of personal expression and healing of physical coordination and mental outlook, as well as providing students connection with fellow students. These classes have been life changing for some students by offering them safety from judgment and, in addition, a safe, supportive environment in which to develop increased self-esteem.

Meet Me at WAC

Exposure to art for people with Alzheimer’s has been shown to improve short-term memory, increase self- confidence, and offer a meaningful cultural experience. Meet Me at WAC is designed for people with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers where they enjoy a stimulating discussion focusing on selected works of art in our galleries followed by a simple, hands-on art project.

The Timothy School Collaborative

Wayne Art Center has collaborated with the Timothy School in Berwyn since 1996 to provide studio art classes tailored to students with autism and pervasive developmental disorder, a developmental disability that affects social interaction, behavior, and communication. Beloved by students and faculty alike, the program provides an excellent outlet for students’ creativity and expression.

Scholarships

Wayne Art Center offers full and partial scholarships for art classes and Summer Art Camp to those with documented financial need. Applications are available in our office, or download the form.
