Still Life and Landscape in Pastelw/Barbara Berry
A six (6) session class
No class on 10/2
Discover the expressive world of pastel with artist Barbara Berry in Still Life and Landscape in Pastel. Known for her emphasis on suggestion rather than precise detail, Barbara guides students on a journey of creative interpretation—inviting both beginners and seasoned artists to explore the rich possibilities of soft pastels. Through dynamic in-class still life setups and personal photographic references, participants will learn to capture atmosphere, emotion, and form with bold color and evocative strokes.
materials list:
Uart paper -320 grit- is a good paper. I usually buy a larger size of the white and cut it smaller if needed.

I also like the taupe colored 320 Grit Italian Clay Sanded Pochettes

And my favorite sanded paper is Lux Archival boards or paper:

These Great American pastel sets are good and less expensive than Terry Ludwig pastels (which Dakota Pastels also carries): https://www.dakotapastels.com/products/Soft-Great-American-Sets
Please bring these additional items:
A hard smooth surface on which to tape your paper (I use 3/16″ gatorfoam board I order from U-line https://www.uline.com/BL_872/Gatorfoam-Board which I cut to the size paper I’m using)
Tape (masking tape is OK and artist tape is even better)
I don’t use gloves but I have a box of nitrile gloves and will bring them.
Some people like to blend colors with a small piece of styrofoam pipe insulation or pastel/charcoal blending sticks made of rolled up paper,

I carry all of my equipment other than my paper mounted onto a piece of board in one of those sturdy grocery store woven recycled grocery bags.
