2005 National Spring Open Juried Exhibition
April 9 – May 2, 2005
The Wayne Art Center announces that its 2005 National Spring Open Juried Exhibition will open on April 9 and will continue through May 2, 2005, in the Center’s Ethel Sergeant Clark Smith Gallery. This year’s show attracted 479 entries from artists from all over the country. From this pool, the jurors, Ro Lohin, director of Lohin-Geduld Gallery, and Kevin Wixted, an abstract painter, selected 39 works, representing 39 artists from 19 states. The chosen objects include paintings, sculpture, photographs and works on paper.
The exhibition will open with a preview reception and awards presentation on Saturday, April 9, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Prizes totaling more than $3,000 will be announced at the opening, which will feature music by Buried Beds, a folk-pop duo. The reception is free and open to the public, and media coverage is invited.
Juror Ro Lohin is director of Lohin-Geduld Gallery, in New York, which presents solo and curated group exhibitions of paintings, sculpture and works on paper by living artists. Ms. Lohin is also a painter, who has had solo exhibitions at Cedar Crest College, Fairleigh Dickinson University and Western Carolina University. Her works have been included in group shows at Haverford College, the National Academy of Design, 55 Mercer Street, Bowery Gallery and other sites.
The second juror, Kevin Wixted, is an abstract painter who has had solo exhibitions at the Lohin-Geduld Gallery in New York, as well as in Boston, Santa Monica, Las Vegas and San Diego. His work is included in many corporate, private and public collections, including those of Chase Manhattan Bank, the MacDowell Colony, the Mississippi Museum of Art and The State Museum of Pennsylvania. Mr. Wixted is also an assistant professor at Alfred University in New York.
