Light and Landscape, Reflections of Italy

June 7–30, 2003

On June 7, 2003, the Center will host its 2nd annual cultural fundraising event Viva La Venezia, a spectacular gala evening where guests will experience the light, myth and magic of Venice, Italy.

Imagine the Wayne Art Center transformed into Venice – the famous canals, the magnificent Piazza San Marco, the masks of Carnevale, the shimmering glass of Murano and much more.  According to Chair, Rosalba Romano Cohn of Newtown Square and Co-chair Terry Blum of Berwyn, “There will be opera singers, strolling violinists, and vendors offering exquisite Italian merchandise for sale in the Mercanti di Venezia. The evening will include a sumptuous buffet dinner created by our own Venetian born chef, Alberto Guadagnini, owner of Alberto’s Authentic Italian Cuisine and Steakhouse of Newtown Square.

There will be a wine cellar and delectable gelati from 32 Degrees in Wayne. Marvelous live and silent auction items will be part of the evening’s festivities.

In conjunction with the Viva La Venezia gala celebration, the Wayne Art Center will present an exhibition in The Ethel Sergeant Clark Smith Gallery by nine artists whose works echo the love of Italy and Italian culture.  Featured in “Light & Landscape: Reflections of Italy” will be multi-colored glass vases by Richard Di Stefano, paintings and works on paper by Martha Armstrong, Quita Brodhead, Jeffrey Carr, Giovanni Casadei, Millicent Krouse, Andrea Krupp, Bill White and Douglas Wirls.
