Quita Brodhead: Recent Work

April 16 – May 8, 2000

Quita Brodhead was born in 1901 in Wilmington, Delaware. From 1919 to 1924 she studied with Daniel Garber, Hugh Breckenridge, Henry McCarter and Arthur B. Carles at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.  She later studied privately with Alexander Archipenko, but it was Carles who had the most profound influence on her artistic development.  A long-time Wayne resident, she was one of the founders of the Wayne Art Center.  Since her first solo-exhibition in 1938 in New York City, she has exhibited in Philadelphia, New York, Paris and Rome.  Her paintings are in the collections of Bryn Mawr College, the Delaware Art Museum, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the Philadelphia Museum of Art and others. In May, Quita Brodhead will serve as the juror for awards at the Wayne Art Center’s National Spring Open Juried Exhibition.
