Our Gardens

Through the generous support of Wayne Art Center members and friends, seven attractive gardens have been created with a stone walking path that leads visitors through the property and connects the various gardens. Several of the gardens feature native horticulture and have led to recognition of Wayne Art Center as a designated Birdtown location. In 2013, the Center received the Radnor Township Beautification Award for its landscaping efforts.

Josephine M. and Calvin W. Schmidt Gallery Garden

The Schmidt Garden is a beautiful backdrop for the art presented in the adjacent Davenport Gallery. This tranquil garden features a vibrant display of color changing seasonally and serves as a place for peaceful reflection. The attractive flagstone terrace, surrounded by magnolia trees, provides a welcoming space for guests to gather for celebrations and receptions. Jo and Cal were master gardeners and passionate supporters of the arts, and their spirit lives on through the Josephine M. and Calvin W. Schmidt Garden.

Ralph J. DiMaio Memorial Garden

The Ralph J. DiMaio Memorial Garden was designed to be a horticultural feast for the eyes, a natural work of Art. A stunning display of plants and stone that includes a variety of ornamental conifers, dwarf Crape Myrtles and Japanese Maple all brought together by ground filling Sedum, Thyme, Catmint and Annual color fit for the entrance of such a great community institution.

Steven and Lee Laden Meditation Garden

The Steven and Lee Laden Meditation Garden serves as a source of inspiration and respite for students and the community, reflecting Steve and Lee’s love of gardens and understanding of the important cultural aesthetic and biological impact of plants. Enhanced with Hosta varieties and marigolds, this garden is an oasis of calm in a garden setting that helps students connect with their own creativity.

Betty Moran Welcome Garden

This garden is located in front of Wayne Art Center’s secondary entrance and brings freshness and seasonal color to the area, welcoming students and visitors as they arrive.

Dorrance H. Hamilton Studio Garden

The Dorrance H. Hamilton Garden is a tranquil place where students can take a break from class and relax. The foliage provides privacy from neighboring businesses while setting a picturesque background for the adjacent studios. Boulders removed from the Radnor Trail during its construction form a semi-circular wall with built-in seating at the edge of the garden.

The Lily Foundation Children’s Garden

The Children’s Garden, located next to the Radnor Trail, is a space for our youngest students to enjoy during breaks from camps and classes. Thanks to the generosity of The Lily Foundation, the Children’s Garden features a rustic treehouse, large boulders, and animal sculptures.

Lee Laden Maplewood Garden

Located at our Maplewood Avenue entrance, the Lee Laden Maplewood Garden welcomes new visitors to the Wayne Art Center with seasonal flowers, trees and low foliage.

Lee Laden Wooded Knoll

The Wooded Knoll, a shaded area with large low boulders, is an ideal location for students to sit peacefully while sketching nature.
